BUSINESS ADVOCACY
Downtown Business Association
On April 2nd, over 100 people representing downtown businesses and building owners, city of Kimberley representatives, Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Kimberley and local stakeholders attended a special meeting and presentation regarding economic and retail issues and strategies.
Following the presentation, the Centre 64 audience participated in a 45 minute comment period that covered concerns ranging from logistics of extended hours, foot and motor traffic flow around the Platzl, and how the City’s upcoming branding will promote business within the Kimberley region.
The presentation and conversation that followed identified that there is a need for a Downtown Business Association (DBA) that would provide a collective voice for merchants in the area, and execute a forum for discussion, and planning to achieve increased opportunities. Working in concert with the Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce through an advisory group, the DBA will continue the efforts to establish stronger economic development opportunities, hold Town Hall-style meetings for the downtown businesses, and develop strategies for the broader market.
As a result of Tuesday’s forum, downtownrocks@kimberleychamber.com was created to capture the ideas, comments and other suggestions from the downtown business community, ensuring continued communication with all stakeholders. Send in your ideas! More information about the Downtown Business Association is available at the Chamber’s new office location at 253 Wallinger Ave.
Renewal of the Kimberley Story
Your Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the City of Kimberley and Tourism Kimberley to strengthen our community’s brand. As part of this process, members of the community are encouraged to provide feedback, insight and perceptions of Kimberley.
There are two surveys currently available, one for Kimberley residents, and one for visitors or people outside the community.
Residents can fill out the survey online at www.KimberleySurvey.com, and visitors can fill out the survey online at www.KimberleyVisitorSurvey.com
For those unable to fill out the survey online, printed copies of the survey can be acquired at City Hall at 340 Spokane St, and can be dropped off at City Hall upon completion.
For those interested in learning more about the branding process, a branding information session will be held on November 20th, at 7:30 pm at Centennial Hall.
